Who is running our Economy?

When asked the distinguishing factor between the undeveloped countries and the developed; I have always noted, from my experience, that the developed countries are ran by the best available minds; whereas the underdeveloped ones are ran by lesser characters. In essence, all nations and societies have near equal distribution of geniuses and honest smart minds. The progress and development of nations and societies are tied to their ability to identify and deploy their best minds in critical areas. To the extent that we kill meritocracy for pettiness in allocation of our human resources; to such level that we deprive ourselves of the much needed better live. A glimpse on the Wikipedia page of Mrs Kemi Adeosun is enough to make well-informed mind loose hope in this country. It is enough to point to either some serious information gap between our President and his advisers, or his total submission to some interest outside the Sovereignty of our nation and well-being of the Niger

HOW WE CAN HEDGE THE FREE FALL OF THE NAIRA

Managing the current monetary challenge will not be an easy one. I foresee that there is now a need for a cocktail of combined solution, just like you need a cocktail of drugs to treat an acute disease like AIDS, as the actions or inactions of government and the monetary authorities has degraded the economy so badly. At the current rate of free fall, only a total collapse is coming. The Naira exchange at 320 tp1$ at the beginning of the month and has skyrocketed to 391 to 1$ at the time of writing. Something is wrong in the monetary regime. Me thinks the following; ·          Part of the problem is that CBN is trying to sell, manage and control a commodity it does not have control over. It is dancing in the wind. CBN does not produce dollars, it produces Naira. It should therefore focus on the Naira and leave the dollars alone. ·          There MUST be a single FOREX market for Nigeria. No official market, no parallel market. Just a FOREX market, controlled by the mar

Danbatta Stirs Telecommunications Industry With 8-Point Agenda

Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, few months after assuming office as the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has released a pointed roadmap to excite the telecommunications industry and attract fresh local and international investment to the sector. Tagged The 8-Point Agenda, the roadmap is conveniently seated on the 3-A tripod of Availability of service, Accessibility of Service, and Affordability of service. It is informed by the change mantra of the Buhari administration which revolves around an ideological shift in creation of structures for social benefits and inclusiveness for national development. Captured under broad headlines and followed by Vision and Strategy for implementation, the agenda, according to Danbatta, will catapult the industry to the next level of growth, and create wealth and development for the people who are being encouraged to take advantage of the steady growth and relevance of the telecomm

India Mulls Tax Holiday for Local Telecoms Manufacturers

Published on: 15th Feb 2016 by Cellular-News India's Telecoms Ministry is seeking a 10 year tax holiday from the government in its forthcoming Union Budget, which would be aimed at attracting fresh investors to the country. The proposals from the Ministry also include an excise duty exemption to help boost local manufacturing of telecoms equipment. The 10-year tax holiday is estimated to encourage investments of around US$1 billion over the next three years. "Such proposals would be exempt from MAT (minimum alternate tax) as well for the same time frame," an official told the Economic Times newspaper. Extending the differential excise duty that's levied on mobile phones to electronic equipment such as network switches, routers and modems has also been proposed, the official added. The government has been pushing hard to encourage local manufacturing of mobile phones, and last year imposed an 11 percent levy on handsets imported into the country. Sinc

Using eLTE to Build the World’s Smartest Train

Image
As a subsidiary of the world’s second-largest coal producing company, China’s Shuohuang Railway needed the largest locomotives possible to carry coal the length of its 594-kilometer railroad. And for heavy-haul trains with a carrying capacity of 20,000 tons, that means trains so large that the first and last locomotives are more than 2.5 km apart. Shuo Huang’s answer: Huawei Digital Railway Solution, which is based on eLTE technology. Source : Bloomberg Updating its outdated infrastructure did more than increase the tonnage of Shuohuang’s shipments. Huawei’s eLTE solution—with up to 99.999 percent reliability and end-to-end encryption—results in zero interruption of low-latency data for multi-locomotive synchronized signaling, which at least triples the capacity of the train. With service-oriented 9-level QoS design, the LTE-based train-to-ground broadband also provides low-latency voice service for dispatching and trunking, as well as high-bandwidth video service

Ever dropped your phone in water? Here is a way out

Image
by Marziah Karch What happens if you get your Android phone wet? Do you panic? Do you throw it in a jar of rice? Do you throw it away? It turns out all of those answers are wrong.  Chances are good if you just splashed a few drops of water on your screen, nothing bad will happen. So let's just talk about what happens if you really goof. What if you drop your phone in the toilet or end up caught in a rain storm with your purse soaking wet. What if you wash it in the laundry? What then?  Well, there's a small chance you won't need to do anything if your phone is water resistant enough to avoid damage. For everyone else, here are a few things to try: Step One: Turn off Your Phone Don't just turn of the screen. Power it down completely. Hold down the power button until it is off, and if possible, open the case and remove the battery. Generally, phones don't die just because of water. They die because the water causes a short in the wiring. In
